Help With Sleep

“I've always envied people who sleep easily. Their brains must be cleaner, the floorboards of the skull well swept, all the little monsters closed up in a steamer trunk at the foot of the bed.” David Benioff - City Of Thieves

The Impact Of Poor Sleep

Although sleep is a natural process an alarming number of people struggle with a lack of sleep. A survey conducted recently concluded that 50% of us are not getting enough sleep. The consequences are serious with lack of sleep thought to be at the root of numerous physical and mental illnesses including heart problems, diabetes, anxiety, stress and depression. Your chances of developing depression are thought to be 50% greater if you are struggling with sleep.

One of the problems that people face when they sleep poorly is that they tell themselves that they are no good at sleeping and this serves only to exacerbate the issue. Knowing how to sleep might sound obvious but for many people it is not.

Why “Trying To Sleep” Is Disasterous

Sleeping is a passive process and so the term “falling asleep” explains well that its involuntary. The notion of “trying to get to sleep” is doomed to failure because the harder we try the less likely we are to succeed. There might be any number of reasons why you are sleeping poorly and its often necessary to both identify the root cause and “re-train” the brain to relax and remember that it still has all the tools to enable it to sleep, if it could just find them and put them into practice.

Why Hypnosis Helps

Difficulty in sleeping is a unconscious issue. Your unconscious mind has developed the idea that being asleep is a bad thing and so it keeps you awake. Hypnosis is a way of bypassing your critical thinking and communicating directly with the unconscious, and so it is possible to reverse some of these unhelpful patterns.

Hypnosis is very effective in treating sleep problems and as an insomnia cure but it is also extremely relaxing and enjoyable. If you have got into a habit of poor sleep recovering the ability to relax is an important step on the way to regaining your life.
